Imagine the comfort that comes from a hug at the time when you need it most. That’s the feeling you can share with an LWR Quilt (Lutheran World Relief). Through a simple combination of fabric and thread, you can reach out to people in their time of greatest need with a strong message of hope — you are not alone.
First and foremost, recipients use their LWR Quilts to shield against the cold and rain, and for warm bedding. But their versatility also makes Quilts useful as simple tents, floor coverings, or a wrap to hold a baby on a mother’s back.
Join this group of dedicated sewers who meet every Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until ca. 2:00 P.M. in the parish hall to participate in the Lutheran World Relief (LWR) project "Make Mission Quilts" (https://lwr.org/get-involved/quilts). No experience is necessary and there are many ways to contribute to and join in the making of quilts and other projects. The group supports one another in their endeavors and takes a break for lunch and a short devotion.
Twice a year an "ingathering" or collection of quilts is made. Other projects are also supported by this group through LWR:
---Personal Care Kits
---Baby Care Kits
The Stewardship Sewers of First Lutheran participated at the two ingatherings for our region in 2017.
In May 2017, 107 quilts were shipped totaling 359 lbs.
In October 2017, 114 quilts were shipped totaling 365 lbs. Additionally, in October 31 school kits (124lbs) with backpacks made by sewers were shipped; 6 Fabric kits; and 6 Baby Care Kits.
